Rough Weekend for the Hams

This past weekend we did not have much going on which was a relief from the norm.

Friday we went over to the Graham's new house so I could help setup their wireless network and connect to their DSL ISP. That was fun b/c we had to talk with Kirby in Pakistan for almost 90 minutes to get it all setup, and then it crashed the next day so I had to go back over and fix it via more Pakistan tech support.

Saturday marked a rough day for the Hams, or at least for 2 of us. The day started off with me taking Rylee to the vet. For those of you that don't know, Rylee is the nicest dog in the world. I have only see her hurt flies by eating them in the house, seriously. Rylee is scared of the vet, hell she is scared of the food jar when it opens and the lid makes a funny noise.

I took her this time b/c Candace always takes her, and Rylee is a little tough to handle. The nurse that came and got her must have been new b/c she thought she would be able to just take Rylee back there to run the necessary tests for her annual check-up. About 15 minutes later she came back covered in white hair and told me they were unable to get anything done. Then our vet came in and looked Rylee over and then we decided to clip her toenails after we took some blood. The taking of the blood worked out fine to my surprise.

Then, we decided to clip her nails. Big mistake. She squirmed and cried. We managed to get 3 done on her front left paw. While going for the 4th nail she squirmed just as the nurse clipped her nail and her paw. It looked like a heavyweight boxing match happened on the floor in there. Blood smears everywhere b/c Rylee's blood pressure was so high. We left after they bandaged her up to keep blood from getting in the car.

After that experience Candace, Connor, and I got lunch and watched some football. We then came home so I could make my dip for an opening house the next day. Well, I got clipped this time. While chopping onions the knife slipped off the end of the onion and took a nice divot out of my right ring finger. This is the same finger that took 4 stitches in the tip 3 years ago when I decided to catch a falling steak knife. I have good luck with knives. This time was different as it was not a slice but a chop. I turned to put my finger under some cold water immediately and yelled for Candace to get some ice and a towel.

** (gross part coming up so don't say I didn't warn you)**

While running cold water, applying pressure to stop the bleeding (I had a few beers while watching football and prepping the dip), and using every 4-letter word known to man I got to witness the divot I took out of my finger and nail fall off and wash down the drain. During all the pandemonium I was able to muster a little laugh while thinking to myself, "well, they're not reattaching that." The divot was no bigger than the end of a pencil eraser in diameter just so you all know, and for those of you that ate my dip and are reading this we used a different onion to finish the dip.

Candace, Connor, and I were off to the urgent care for another knife inflicted finger wound. They wrapped it and we were off.

We were still able to enjoy the rest of the afternoon and our anniversary dinner that evening. Yes, this was done on the day of our 4th anniversary. It never fails that something happens during either Valentine's day, birthday, or our Anniversary.

1) It certainly was a busy weekend. Glad you and your finger are ok. I'm weird about knives in the kitchen--I think I know I will do the same and then what?? I let the food processor and my handy-dandy chopper do most of my chopping for me. Safer that way. LOL

Maybe you need to take Rylee to the vet for no reason once in a while to take some of the fear away. Sounds like he needs some occasions where nothing bad happens. Some dogs are that way with fear of flies but they can work some of those fears out with some work. Hope he has a better time next visit (and you too!)

2) It's Walker Dangerous! Remind me to send that Ginsu knife I got you for Xmas off the HSN back. Glad to hear you are okay but it's confirmed you have no business being around sharp objects or even big dull blocks of metal for that matter. Take it easy, make sure you don't hurt yourself again. Have Candace do the yard work for a couple years and do all the cooking for at least the next decade. Make sure that finger gets better before you even consider lifting it again.
