A whole week?!

Man I suck, or am I considerate to you all in that I don't just post to post? I have a hard time posting if have nothing pertinent to tell, and don't want to waste anyone's time with a bunch of filler.

This time I do. We have lots of new pics of Connor. Check out the new album I added from random weekends. Just go here.

Also, be sure to visit Lindsey Turner's page to see the AMAZING pictures she took. We offered Lindsey first rights over numerous magazines and tabloids as well as millions of dollars to shoot pictures of the Ham Family. We are a very generous bunch here at the Ham house. For those of you that want pictures of Connor be sure to order from Lindsey's website. She did a really amazing job with some tough subjects (Candace and Connor would just not cooperate).

Connor is still fighting colic and reflux which has challenged me like nothing before. I hate it so much that I cannot make him better. I hate it so much to the point that is really upsets me, but I am learning and trying. The good news is Connor does sleep at night. So when he does rest, he rests. It's just that when he is up and not eating he is usually crying. Poor little guy, but I guess Candace and I should be able to laugh about it all. After all, did we really expect for our baby to be easy going? We'll get through it together and with the help of some very good friends, family, and excellent mimis.

On a nerd note, I did manage to pick up Madden 09 for the Xbox which has quickly become the 2nd most frustrating thing in my life. The new My Skill feature makes the game really difficult and realistic. My video game playing has taken a backseat recently.

On a really big nerd note, I am also teaching myself how to speed read. They say the average human speaks about 175 - 250 words per minutes, (350 for those of you that know how fast I talk) and that is unfortunately the rate at which most people read too. So, I am training myself to unlearn conventional reading techniques and learn how to speed read. So far the actual process of picking up the book has proven quite difficult.

All for now.

1) Gripe water - I am sure you have been given a ton of advice but this stuff seemed to work for Caroline - who has colic forever it seemed...

2) Thanks Laurie. We have tried the gripe water as well as the tablets. Still extra fussy.

3) Sorry, I've forgotten, is Connor bottle fed or breast fed? That does make a difference, sometimes; however, our first (Galvin) was mostly fussy from 7pm on, which lasted about six weeks. Now, Gwendolyn, has been a much higher-needs baby, fussing from about 5pm on over a span of three months. I will say this (and I'm sure many others have, too): it will get better. Gwenie is almost 14 months old, now, and a joy! She still has trouble getting herself to sleep or back to sleep in the middle of the night, but it's 100 times better than that newborn stage - I actually get about four consecutive hours of sleep per night, and that's a good thing! HA!

Now, one thing we did do with both our kids was co-sleeping. It worked like a charm with Galvin, who started sleeping in his own crib at 8 months of age, and made breastfeeding for me much easier with Gwendolyn, who began sleeping in her own crib this past June. I know, I know, the "experts" say not to sleep with your baby, but I just needed some rest.

Good luck, and remember that "this too shall pass."

4) Walker, Sorry to hear about the colic and lack of sleep dude. That's just no good. Let me see if I can recommend a something for him that might just do the trick.

Magic Hat makes a great beer called #9 that helps me sleep really well. Make sure he drinks about 10 of them, best if done on the weekend. That usually takes care of any kind of irritation, couging, etc that I might have going on that particular day. I may warn you that it could cause Connor to snore some or it may cause others around him or in the same crib as him to move to other locations of the house to sleep for the night. He may also sleep in really late and kind of disregard any chores or responsibilities he had planned for the following day. This is completely normal.

Let me know how it goes, the side effects sound bad but they really are quite minimal.

6) I know nothing about reflux, but I know plenty about raising a colicky baby. And it's really awful. There's no medication for that! I'm not a medical professional, but I would venture to guess that you will be seeing an improvement in the colic very soon.
