The City I Only Sleep In
Hello Humzooheads.... long time no blog!!
Anyway, In my modest 25 years of earthly experiences, I have come to learn that humans are largely creatures of habit. Most people I know like to go to sleep at about the same time everyday, eat at the same handful of restaurants, hang out with the same core group of friends, watch familiar television shows. Even when people want to break away from the monotony of everyday life... they seem to seek the same get-aways and escapes.
Well unfortunately, for the past six months or so, I have come to accept my role a regular working stiff. I get up about 6am... make the trek to Taylorville... do my news show... eat lunch... prepare for tomorrow's show... go home... eat dinner... watch tv... go to sleep. pretty lame huh?
Today however, I actually got to break away from the everyday routine... however slight it may have been. Work duties called me to Springfield this afternoon, and in an effort to save gas, when i was done, i just finished up from home and called it a day.
Now I know that as metropolitan areas go... Springfield is average at best. But what a refreshing change it was to actually see the city alive and moving in the middle of a weekday! As I mentioned, I'm generally in Taylorville during business hours m-f... and let me tell you... as metropolitan areas go... Taylorville is nowhere near average.
So after months of largely only seeing springfield in the dark and on the weekends, it was a bit of a culture shock to actually see people in large groups. I cant believe I'm saying this, but it was actually nice to sit in a traffic jam!! Driving around and seeing people playing ball in the park, storefronts with actual open doors, and the sound of car horns honking is something i've always took for granted, but since my self imposed reclusion to the island of Taylorville, I just don't see those things anymore.
Anyway, i guess its good to know that life in the mid sized city is still going on without me, and it certainly makes me want to think about a career change, if nothing else, for the sake of my sanity. i guess I'm jsut a city boy at heart.

If you're looking for a career change I could use a professional weeder. I can offer you free room and board. Of course Morris CT (population 2,000) would make Taylorville seem like a Metropolis. :)
