Our trip home

So, we made it back! Two days in a car with an almost four month old each way. Tripp was a great car rider and didn't even fuss until we were almost in Charlotte. Then it was an all out screaming session which required a stop. He was even better on the way back. But, we have made the decision to fly at Christmas. I'm sure that flying will present a new set of issues, but at least we will only spend a few hours instead of days dealing with travel. I think that I'll prefer it over the stopping every three hours to feed him, eating at lots of yucky fast food restuarants, and changing his diaper in the car (I couldn't bear to use the changing station in some of the bathrooms and others didn't have them).

We did so much while at home. I'm going to try to update with all of the pictures, but it might take a few days. Or maybe I'll do it tonight after Tripp is in bed. He hit a big milestone while at home. He slept through the night. This happened after Supper Club at the Deaton's. We didn't even give him the last late bottle and he slept straight on through until 7 am. I knew that he could do it. He is pretty much doing it every night now (minus a few early mornings). Big 4 month appointment on Thursday morning. Can't wait to see how much he has grown again. I swear that he grew out of clothes while we were at home.

It was wonderful to see family and friends. I can't wait until Christmas, although I'm doubting that we'll see as many people as we did this trip. Tripp enjoyed meeting everyone and pretty much charmed everyone with his smiles, laughs, and talking. He is such a sweet little boy.

On the way back, Tripp experienced his first snow in Erie, Pennsylvania. We woke up to the white stuff and really cold weather. What a shock to be back in the cold after being in NC for that time where a coat wasn't even necessary.

1) Jack seems to grow out of stuff over-night too. It is amazing how fast they grow! Glad the drive was good, remember babies can't clear their ears with cabin pressure changes in planes and may scream the whole flight. I was a few rows away from an infant on a flight from Charlotte to Newark a few years ago. Everyone was frazzled by the time we got there. Sometimes giving a bottle during take-off can help, but not always. Good luck either way!

2) I've heard that about the bottle. I'm hoping that it will work for us at Christmas. The flight is short, only two hours. But, two hours of a baby crying would be really bad.

4) Interesting that his sleep improved AFTER the Deaton's...hmmmm. :)

Glad you guys made it both ways with minimal problems and you have a nice sleeping baby now. Sounds like you have a lot of good advice for the flight at Christmas. We look forward to the photos!

5) I was going to suggest a bottle too. I use to fly when my kids were little and it always kept them comfortable. I thought you were brave to drive all the way. It sounds like you had the perfect trip.

7) Oh no, George. I'm sorry. He didn't last night, if that makes you feel better. Up and 4 and just wouldn't go back to sleep (off and on). He's taking a nap right now. We didn't give him that late bottle last night and we'll do it tonight for sure.
