A Significant Day For America

Since, Barack Obama and a lot of other Democrats have been elected to levels of political offices, it is my hope that both the Conservatives and the Liberal Democrats can work together to solve a lot of the on going problems in America today.

1. The eradication of drugs on the streets of the US.

2. The elimiation of Illegal Immigrants that put burden on the Welfare System, plus being an insurmountable burden on the Health Care System.

3. To increase the achievement level of high school graduates. It scares me to dealth, when I read that the chances of any our grand childern not finishing High School is less than what our generation's were.

4. Lowering the Defense Posture of the US Military because people don't want to see "Body Bags", weli it has happened before and it will always continue to happen when the need arrives.

5, The status of parenting in the home, because II have many active and retired people that were teachers;however, do I think that they have to be parents to children because their natural parents or grand parents weren't capable.

6. The status of enegy production and energy independence. The first thing that Obama is advocating is limited use of Coal. This policy makes no sense because we have more proven reserves of Coal than the Saudis do of oil.

1) This is truly a remarkable day - I agree with the Bean. I don't think number 5 above is anything that can be affected much by the government, but it is definitely critical that parents need to do their part. That cannot be overstated.

Nice blog Bean.

2) I think that the government can help with number 5. They can provide money to programs that have been proven successful in helping future/current parents. One such program is "The Harlem Children's Zone." This American Life did a story about them a couple of weeks back. Also, Paul Tough wrote a book about them called "Whatever it Takes."

3) One of the ways they can accomplish number one would be to legalize - legalize - legalize. Grow it - sell it - tax the hell out if it.

4) Good blog, Bean! The best words here are "work together." Amen. Work together for all races, for all creeds, for all colors, for all orientations.

5) Fritz, the parenting problem doesn't just apply to the Harlem Zone, it is every where. I know two children that are in the same grade in school, and it is very evident. The one little girl is very bright and has been raised with both of her parents and her maturity and manners really shows. The other little girl is being raised by one grandmother in a home where two people are either on drugs or getting off of drugs, while her daddy is serving ten years for manufacturing Meth. Her other Grandmother a retired special education teacher who is having problems of her own.

6) Thank you for the compliment, Nancy. I realize that some times I show my bad points, but I don't to intend to embarrass any one.

7) Meg, if you don't think the Legalised Sale of Maijuana hasdn't thought, well it has because at one time RJ Reynolds went so far as to set up a processing plant for its packaging and distribution.

8) Bean, a comment I made to you on another site that I don't think you saw: My parents always taught me that I am no better or no worse than any other human being. Same goes for you. I think there's hope for the Bean. Maybe this is the time to open your heart to all people and let the sunshine in!! I think you'll like how it feels.

9) I think we all want a lot of the same things, we just have to work together to find a way to accomplish them. Ditto to Dave on everything. It would be very hard to "make" people be better parents.

10) Bean - it has been thought of but not implemented and it should be implemented - our jails are overcrowded - and not by the people that should be there but by the small time users who get popped. Marijuana should be decriminalized. In MA, it has been decriminilzed - if you are caught with an oz or less - it gets confiscated - you have to pay a $100 fine but you have no criminal record.

12) There you go, Bean. You're working on believing in goodness...
and showing some compassion and understanding.

Agree, also, Meg and Carrie. We have so many more serious concerns than people smoking marijuana.

15) I get that it's not just a problem in Harlem. I said that we need to model what is being done in Harlem in other cities and communities.

18) Maybe the South could produce mari-ju-ana alongside their new cotton crops - it'd probably sell better than cigarettes in this country, they'd charge more and tax it more, making boatloads of cash!

20) It is already being grown in the South; however, the marijuana is being grown in the woods. In Johnston County North Carolina, the old "Bootleggers" have switched from "Moonshine" to drug production. A mature stalk of marijuana has a Market Value of approximately $2,000/stalk. Johnston County is an ideal place to grow Marijuana because the transportation to next step up the chain of distribution is easy because two major Interstate Highways (I95 & I40) cross in the county, along with another major traffic artery (US70).

21) The two major sin taxes that the various levels of government collect are: The tax on tobacco and Liquor.

22) The Bean has come to conclusion that most people don't hate particular races or groups of people, rather a lot of people hate the ways of a particular person or group. A lot of people that hate other people don't seem to take in account the other persons background.
