Tractor, Gill Tool, Lime, Fertilizer, Seed and Straw = Back ache

It all started on Thursday night, Kitch came down with the flu, which gave me the opportunity to work in the yard for three days. See we were supposed to go to the beach for the weekend, but we decided to not go so that Kitch would not infect her whole family (Thanks flu for an opening). So on Friday afternoon, I was able to borrow a tractor from one of my Dad’s good friends (nicked named “Squirrel”). I started to work about 5:30 that afternoon, moving a huge pile of mulch in to the natural area I am building. It all went well until unexpectedly the tractor died on us. After trying to fix it for a bit we decided to get “Squirrel” to come and check out the problem. We realize that there were two major problems that occurred. The first problem was we ran out of diesel and the second was the starter was not working. A quick trip to the gas station and $20 later the tractor had fuel in it, but the starter was still giving us problems. The next morning Squirrel removed the starter from the tractor and I took it to a repair shop to get it checked out. After driving 20 minutes away I found out nothing was wrong with the start, but some thing else had to be wrong with the tractor. Not a good day at all. Since Saturday was one of the most beautiful days we have had in the past couple of weeks I really wanted to get it done that day and I wasn’t about to try and do tractor work on Easter Sunday. Ok back to the tractor deal, after getting back home and talking to “Squirrel” I found out he was on a job and could not make it back till later on that day. So I did some odds and ends jobs around the house till he was able to make it back around 3 pm. I was still worried something else was wrong with the tractor and I was never going to get my yard done! I quick twenty minutes later we had the tractor running, come to find out there was just a loose wire going to the battery. Funny thing, three grown men couldn’t seem to figure that out the night before. So with over a half of the day wasted, I was back at work again. We finished moving the mulch to the natural area and then proceeded to Gill Till the yard. This mainly rakes the yard so that you don’t have roots and other junk in your yard. After driving in circles many, many, many times we finally had the yard cleaned up and ready to lime. During this time my buddy Justin showed up with the big rake, this thing was a least 4 ft. wide. HUGE RAKE!!! While Dad and Justin finished up cleaning up the trash dirt, I started to spread the 12 bags of lime, 3 bags of fertilizer and 100 lbs of seed. Finally at 8:30 at night we had finished shaking out 20 bales of straw all over the yard. Believe me I was tired, sore and my back ached a little bit. Thanks so much to Dad, Tyler and Justin for helping me do this. With out them I think I would still be riding in circles on the tractor, maybe that wouldn’t be that bad? I really enjoyed getting out and working in the yard, even though the after affects are somewhat painful.
