Don't read this, deal is dead:(

Edit: Geico has stopped this promotion. Sorry about that:(

I like meat. I like burgers and I especially like Omaha steak burgers. If you like them too, you can get 20 of them delivered to your door for $1.98. That's one dollar and ninety eight cents!

It's a bit complicated but well worth it. Here's what you do:

1) Go to this link
http://www.geicoprivileges.com/members/home.php?sid=26X...
to sign up for the Geico website. You do NOT have to have Geico, you do NOT have to switch any of your insurance. It just gives you a username for their website, and they will email you within an hour or so with a link to a gift card code. Check your spam folder if you don't get the email after two hours or so. The gift card number is really long, so double check when you write it down.

2) Go to this link http://www.shareomahasteaks.com/k/HFtSMYsaHS8AEYMJBCMHD...
and type in your email address. They will send you an email confirmation right away, and there is a link within the email to start shopping. After you get your gift card code from step one, use that link to order the hamburgers (described below) and it will automatically give you 12 free 4 ounce burgers. The 12 free won't show up in your cart until you check out, so don't panic.

3) When you get your gift card code and go to the link through the step two link, you'll be at the Omaha Steaks website. In the left hand sidebar, click on the link for "burgers/brats" etc. Scroll down until you see the option for "eight 5 ounce steak burgers" for 12.99. Add that to your cart, then checkout. (Note: apparently the $12.99 option doesn't work for everyone, if you get through the next step and it doesn't work, go back and get the $14.99 option. It will cost you $2 more out of pocket, but you'll get that much more meat.)

4) At checkout, you enter your address etc and you should see the 12.99 burgers, plus the 12 free burgers you got from doing step 2 above. At the point where they ask for payment, you'll see that they add in about $13 for shipping - don't worry, your gift card code will cover that. Before you enter your credit card (or paypal - one of the payment options is "pay by paypal" if that is easier for you), enter your gift card code and hit "apply" or whatever the button says next to that. That should take your total down to roughly $1.98. Then enter your actual payment method and you will only be charged $1.98 (it may be a few cents more or less depending on your address, it was $1.98 for me)

5) Complete the transaction. In a few days you'll be getting a cooler shipment of 5.5 pounds of Steak burgers, which works out to ONLY 36 CENTS A POUND!

That is a rad deal for ground beef.
It seems more complicated a process than it is - start to finish it only took me a few minutes to do it. It did take about 2 hours for me to recieve my gift code.

Thanks to my blogging friend Catherine for helping figure out this deal!

Just to show you it works, I got my order confirmation. It looked like this:
Item Qty Each Total
01724 Omaha Steaks Burgers 8/5 Oz 1 $12.99 $12.99
08658 Omaha Steaks Burgers 12/4 1 $.00 $.00
09830 Rewards Gift Card 1 -$25.00 -$25.00
Sub-total: -$12.01
Shipping: $13.99
Total: $1.98
Edit: once you get your email with a link, go the geico website and sign in before you click on the link, that should make your gift code appear!

2) That's a pretty awesome deal, Kaydee. I'm a vegetarian so it wouldn't be a good one for me but I'm in the minority so I'm sure there are LOTS who would love this deal! It's an impressive one--even with the steps! Great work!

20) I just figured it out. they took the offer off the website. I just read on another blog that this deal is no longer working. Someone must have been losing money on it. I apologize profusely. I wish this would have worked a bit longer so I don't look like a total ass. It was working yesterday.

27) KAYDEE, have you ever heard of the website grocerygame.com?
Tanya Mussetter   Wednesday, October 22, 2008
KayDee
28) I"ve done the grocery game and I think it's awesome if you're just getting started doing coupons. After a while, you learn and you don't need it anymore but I was thinking they have a trial for like a $1. It's worth it!
KAYDEE   Wednesday, October 22, 2008
tanya
29) I tried the trial but in order to get the deals that are advertised on the website you have to shop Sunday - Tuesday and those aren't my shopping days so it didn't work for me. I shop at WalMart where things are cheaper anyway and I just use my coupons there.
What blogs do you go to and get all of your information - like this omaha steaks thing??
Tanya Mussetter   Wednesday, October 22, 2008
KayDee
30) I found that on moneysavingmom.com What the grocery game means by Sun-Tues is that the deals are posted by Tuesday and run through Sunday. Watch out for Walmart prices. I have found that the only way they can say lowest prices guaranteed is if you price match with another store. They do have some great prices on some things.
KAYDEE   Wednesday, October 22, 2008
justmeg
31) Kroger sales run from Wednesday to Tuesday. I tend to shop there the most because they double. Occasionally I will go to Brookshire's if they have a sale and I have coupons because they will triple.

I only do Wal-mart if I have coupons that are over .60 - might as well get the cheapest price and use the coupon there since Kroger and Brookshire's won't double or triple over .60
justmeg   Wednesday, October 22, 2008

32) I'm glad my shopping doesn't have to be that complex. None of my regular fare tends to have coupons or shopping around much. I tend to be the assertive shopper on non-food items and baking food requirements (like butter). Then I do watch ads and use coupons when the option is available. Would that I could gather more baking supply bargains without having to jump through all these rings. :)

35) I know, Meg, that's what I meant about being lucky mine isn't so complex to have the need. I marvel at you all doing such a great job finding deals and fixing good meals for all those people!

KAYDEE, I'm ahead of you. I do a lot of shopping around the holidays for that very reason. And we just set up a bake day date at work for the 13th of December so I will shop for that too. I do all the shopping and mixing and baking since I'm the one with all the equipment (not to mention who really likes to do it) and the rest pay for the supplies and help with other parts like decorating supplies and lunch! Last year was our first one with a group and it was fun but we over-extended ourselves and it went on too long. This year we will be wiser and lessen the time required to finish things and enjoy the cookie decorating event! I'm already excited. :)

36) ahhh-I love holiday sales. I got an email form Omaha cust. service tonight saying that my order would be shipping without the free 12 burgers since you cannot combine offers like that. It seemed really snitty and made me mad. They are just trying to cover their tails now.
KAYDEE   Wednesday, October 22, 2008
lgrant
37) LOL...punishment for getting everyone in Humzoo taking the deal! :) Or trying to. :)

I love holiday sales too. So much of it has a good shelf life or can be lengthened with freezing. Holiday sales are made for bakers who want to stockpile...and you other folks who like to bake for holidays. LOL

38) Dang Kaydee - that's too bad to hear. I had followed your step 1 above and was waiting on the email from Geico. I guess now I'll just forget about it. This is a sad, sad day for cheap beef lovers around the world.

39) I'm not happy with Omaha Steaks Dave. This is bad bad customer service for them.
KAYDEE   Wednesday, October 22, 2008

40) It sure is. And you know, I think it reflects poorly on Obama too. I mean, he's just one typo away from Ohama steaks, and if he wants to run this country, he needs to get some control over meat processing plants that use names similar to his. Just one more reason I'm voting Republican: no more cheap beef surprises.

45) KAYDEE, I'm sorry this didn't work out. We had our mouths watering for those burgers, but nobody blames you. Companies out there try so hard to lure in new customers with "freebies" but then make it nearly impossible for us to really cash in.
We got a certificate for $500 in FREE GAS just for test driving a car. When we checked out the claim process online it was extremely complex. That wasn't what stopped us, though. The red flags came up when the mice type basically gave them permission to give our info to everyone out there to market to us by mail, email, phone or whatever means they wanted! We've worked too hard to get OFF lists where they bug the cr*p out of us with sales pitches, so NO DEAL on that one. We will just have to find other ways to save $$$.
