1) An expression of self or group congratulation, usually applied in video game context.

Long version: We just captured the enemy team's flag! Go us!
Short version: W00t!

Like LOL, IMHO, etc., it sounds very dumb outside an internet context, and not much less dumb within.

2) I read somewhere that w00t had become an official word, but I failed to find the article. Urban Dictionary has this description of w00t:

Woot originated as a hacker term for root (or administrative) access to a computer. However, with the term as coincides with the gamer term, "w00t".

"w00t" was originally an trunicated expression common among players of Dungeons and Dragons tabletop role-playing game for "Wow, loot!" Thus the term passed into the net-culture where it thrived in video game communities and lost its original meaning and is used simply as a term of excitement.
"I defeated the dark sorcerer! Woot!"

4) Scott,
I have started using the term WOOT in day to day interaction with the public. So far its going pretty well and I have only gotten a few confused looks. I should document the introduction with the locals with my video camera, that would make a nice film.

9) From urbandictionary also

1) An interjection similar to "YAYE!" or "Woohoo!" used to express joy or excitement, usually about some kind of accomplishment. Primarily used by gamers, spreading rapidly to anyone who chats online

Gaming origins: We Owned the Other Team
or Wonderful Loot (Everquest gaming slang)

2) To express agreement

3) As an acronym, can mean Waste of Our Time or Way Out of Topic (online forums) Less common.

AND

A word originating from the old D&D games, was used to express excitement when finding treasure, the player would say "Wow loot!" thus over time turning into "w00t" in the videogame world, as a form of satisfaction or victory..

12) One time I set up woot.com to send me SMS alerts. Niki especially loved it when it went off at 1am every night on the nightstand. Also, it was awesome on Woot Off days, my phone was going crazy with txt messages. I had to finally cancel the alert service, it was way too much for any one man to handle.

13) Mark -
I bought a bag o' crap during a woot-off last year. Mine ended up being a pair of Virgin cordless phones, a portable air compressor, some cheap-o helicopter that broke almost immediately, and some very random do-dads (like Chucky Cheese prize kind of stuff) that was probably just thrown in the box like packing peanuts.
